No New York…

No New York Trip this weekend. :(
Some people dropped the ball, so we can no longer get the free hotel rooms and stipend - it became too expensive for the amount of PR we’ll be getting, especially considering there will be 3 other solar car teams from US who’ll be there as well.

Ah well, I was hoping to see NYC… but in some sense, I’m little glad too - I have a lot of things on my plate this will make it little easier on me… Life goes on. :) We _are_ planning to do something really, really neat and cool next year, though. Hopefully we’ll be able to schedule everything and execute it.

Thinking of buying a digital camera, but it’s a lot of money and I really don’t know how much I’ll actually use it. I always wanted to do it (I was in Photo Club when I was in Elementary school in South Korea! :D ) I’ll probably roll it around my head for couple of months, then either lose interest or go out and buy it on a whim.

Life and Work

This view keeps coming back to me.

Couple of days ago, as I was driving off the parking lot, I saw these two guys standing in front of the building typing into their blackberries. It was gorgeous out that day - not too hot, but still sunny, with nice bit of breeze - but their minds were completely focused on the little screens held at about waist height, their necks completely bent downwards as they furiously typed into the little devices…

And to think about it, I’m not that different from them.

Harddrive

Harddrive is back. :) Another 60GB, though I really have no use for it anymore. I’ll keep it in the nice shiny anti-static bag.

As long as data stored on it isn’t too critical, this is pretty good deal. :) I get the thrill of getting new computer part every 6 months or so. Only problem is that I lose all the data on it in the process… Ah well.

Marks are online!

Marks from last term are now online. I did fairly well considering I missed second week of lectures and spent ridiculous amount of time working on the solar car. :)
Here’s the interesting part, though. I tried to figure out which area of ECE was my strongest (you know, 00s for basics, 10s for communcations, 20s for digital hardware, 30s for cirucits… etc). Amazingly enough, the average was very close between different subject matters - maximum deviation of about 5 between the ECE courses I took. There were couple of them (10s, 30s) that I really didn’t think would have the same level of marks as others… but it all ended up being very close. Neat stuff. :)
On the flip side, just as expected, my physics and math marks were among the lowest averages. Ah well, it just means that ECE suits me.

I need to ask my boss if I can take next friday off so that I can go to New York… but I don’t want to make bad impression on her… Bah, I’ll just go and ask her tomorrow and tell her that I’ll work extra hour a day rest of this week and next week.

Poor guys…

Poor guys… it puts all of my problems into perspective. :) At least I didn’t break hundreds of million dollars worth of equipment.

Twenty One!

I’m 21 now. :) Bah, I’m getting old.

But not as old as Tsu, though, who’s turning 22 tomorrow. :) Happy Birthday, T!

Anyway, I signed up with friendster.com yesterday. I want to see if I can find at least one person from each of the ‘groups’ that I’ve been involved with… I’m maybe halfway there. It’s an interesting idea, though the site’s pretty slow. I also made graffiti thingie couple of days ago… that was out of pure boredom.

Although it’s not made official yet, it’ll be soon… The Solar Car will not be going to Australia this year, mainly due to money and finding team members ($2000 ticket to Australia isn’t exactly cheap, not to mention 3 to 6 week time commitment). We’re thinking about one of the events next year, including two races in Australia and one in Greece before the Olympics. I guess we’ll decide on it, but it at least gives me some time to get to know the system better and to fix it up properly. Little secret, exclusive to all 3 people who read my blog. :)

Oh yeah, and Lawrence has a new website (and is now down in San Diego).

Work work work!

My second day of work! :)

I really like the atmosphere there, it’s nice and small and bustling! Next to where I’m sitting, there’s couple of dismantled computers, two tool boxes, and a soldering iron. Few meters behind where I’m sitting, there are 4, 5 racks full of machines running, couple more half dismantled computers, a pile of SCSI harddrives, and memory modules nicely in a row. There’s free pop, tea, coffee, chips, cookies, candies, carrots, and other goodies in the kitchen, mascot Dilbert doll on a corner somewhere, and nice balcony outside. All I need to do is get to know the co-workers better and find a stupid Win2K driver for Creative Labs SoundBlaster Vibra 16. :D Oh yeah, and working domain account would also be helpful. :P

I got a nice Midnight Sun Barbiarian Rugby Shirt yesterday! I also got 2 postcards from T (Hi T ^_^!). I’ve been in and out of university to help out with midsun and there are so many frosh, wandering around the campus with those UW Bookstore boxes and bags. It’s a weird feeling - all those guys swarming around was me just three years ago. Next time I’m in University, I’ll try to stop a couple and talk to them. :) Hopefully I won’t scare them too much.

Hmm… what else… I need to work on the 4th year project website… and even more midnightsun stuff… and need to ask work whether I can go to Australia for 3 weeks… bah!
