VoIP

The VoIP Adapter (SIPAdapter from sipphone.com) finally came! All I had to do is plug in RJ45, RJ11, and the power cord and everything was up and running. :)

The default “white noise” is little bit different from the POTS so it’s little unnerving… Also, the phone automatically downloads new configuration from central TFTP server, meaning I cannot set any personal settings. I guess I can override it, but I’ll wait for now until I get more familiar with it.

Just waiting for my aunt to setup the phone so that I can actually try it with real service. ^^

I never found out what caused the white noise. Is it the lack of bandwidth or the software or what? There’s a prof at SFU who has a VoIP cell phone. @@

On POTS, whitenoise is automatically and intentionally generated by the switching system… apparently it lets people know that they are still connected to network and makes them happy…. or something :)

I had a dream I had this adapter and I plugged it into a regular phone jack. It blew up the phone and my brother was very angry with me. After all, we no longer have a phone to call in a repairperson!
