Iron Ring Fitting

Had my Iron Ring fitting today - apparently I’m size 5.5. I was surprisingly excited about something that I didn’t really expect to get excited about. The Iron Ring Ceremony (and the accompanying Champagne Breakfast and the Iron Ring Stag) is in exactly 1 weeks’ time, and I can’t wait!

PancakesI’ve been made the official Pancake Chef for the Champagne Breakfast from my experience making pancakes for lots of people. It’ll be fun, it looks like Tsu and Kevin are doing a great job organizing everything.

I should be studying, but I’ve been spending the last bit fixing up my photo gallery. Apparently the css file didn’t quite work for Internet Explorer. I’ve set it up a while ago, so that kinda tells you just how much I use IE. :D Go Firefox! I’ve also uploaded some North American Tour photos for your enjoyment :)

I was driving to school this morning… I’d usually be doing about 70kph up the Columbia Street toward the University, but I saw in my back mirror a white Crown Victoria turn in right behind me… White Crown Victorias are a trouble, so I slowed down to more leisurely (and more legal) 60kph… When I got to the top, I saw that there was a speed trap set up by the police… And when I got to the light, I realized that the Crown Victoria was being driven by a little old woman. Thank you, little old woman driving a Crown Victoria! :)

Oh yeah, and Vote!

Election Fever

FEDS Election will start in approximately 8 hours or so. I’ve been watching with a sort of benign disinterest even though a good friend and a classmate are running for a position. I am a Yellow Button wearing member, so I suppose my definition of benign disinterest would probably translate to a fervent support for 80% of the students out there at the University of Apathy. (Or maybe it’s just the Faculty of Apathy, who knows, it seems like people outside the Engineering buildings seem to have little more interest and enthusiasm). From my personal experience with both Bobby and Lawrence, and with serving as class representative along with Lawrence for the last 3 years, I know they will do an excellent job, so I’ll be voting with a definite conviction in my choice.

For me, a non-drinking, fairly inactive (in terms of club participation) member of University of Waterloo, FEDS has been a distant and almost completely alien entity taking up a corner of SLC. Probably the only FEDS service I use is the Used Book Store, and my understanding is that it’s one of those rare FEDS business that actually make money (though now that we have Tim Hortons at SLC, I’m sure FEDS Business ledger sheet looks a bit less red). My overall experience with FEDS has been decidedly negative, with the lawsuit and all the related ugliness that resulted couple of years ago… so hopefully my one little vote will help restore my faith in FEDS, whose existence I fully support.

Talking about elections, I’ve noticed a series of posters in Engineering Building with various lacy or peaceful images. This is a brilliant marketing move that targets a mass of students with populist single issue platform and dangling an eye candy on top to boot. As much as it annoys and insults me, the sad state of affairs is that Kunal Gupta will probably win…

Oh yeah, Happy Valentines Day. Oops, I guess it’s too late. :p
